The Montpelier District Heat Plant will be an expansion to the State’s existing boiler plant at 122 State Street (behind 120 State Street). The District Heat Plant is being constructed by the State to floodproof the existing building, construct an addition above the 100 year base flood elevation for; fuel offloading, to house two new wood chip boilers and the air pollution control equipment, modify and relocate an existing oil fired boiler and be able to sell thermal energy.
Construction of the District Heat Plant began in June, 2013.
** Construction of the Montpelier District Heat Project (direct buried heat lines running through the City of Montpelier) is also underway, however, this is a separate project from the District Heat Plant, even though the two will connect via the thermal energy connection point, known as the "City Room". The Montpelier District Heat Project is being constructed by the City for the City’s distribution system. For more information visit http://www.montpelier-vt.org/group/99.html.
